President Trump said Kristi Noem is no longer secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, saying Thursday he would replace her with Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma.

Before Trump posted on social media, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security said, “Secretary Noem serves at the pleasure of the President.”

The final straw for Trump was Noem’s combative hearing Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which showed bipartisan frustration with Noem’s leadership, according to advisers familiar with Trump’s thinking.

Noem’s decision to allot $200 million for an ad campaign, featuring herself urging those living illegally in the U.S. to self-deport, had already rankled the president for months for its self-promotional style.

At the hearing, Noem told senators that the president had signed off on the ad campaign—an assertion that upset Trump, who told senators and advisers he had not signed off on such a campaign.

Noem said the ads had been effective, leading Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy to shoot back that they had been “effective in building [Noem’s] name recognition.”

The fresh story goes on to discuss other complaints about her performance.

She claimed Trump approved the $220 million ad campaign or whatever it was*

Unless Trump specifically sends you out to be in the spotlight on his behalf, stay out of it. He’s the center of attention, not you. Rubio knows that.

A Senate job is better than DHS boss, IMO. That should make an interesting situation to appoint someone, as the election is this fall.

So, seat is up for re-election in 2028; maybe this guy goes right back into the Senate then?

GOP governor of OK may appoint a somewhat safe choice to the US Senate, then he steps aside in 2028?

Apparently this guy won his Senate seat with 61% of the popular vote; so whoever the GOP candidate is in 2028 will be the front-runner.

Who knows.

That is true (per Wiki). Full term senator (Jim Inhofe) elected in 2020.

Inhofe could have easily been from Chicago. First elected office, age 32. Never left government until he died at 90. :-O

Extra added Chicago politician bonus: he may have lied about when he graduated from college!! LOL.

I don't know the situation on the ground but I assume the thinking is . . .
