This team has a few of the things that set it up for an OK NCAA run.

1) it has a odd style that teams may not be used to seeing. The offense uses all these big that can shoot and crashes the board hard. This many good shooting bigs is an outlier, not seen much.

2) goes with point 1, their positional size is also a bit unique. Makes their defense a bit unique

3) they have 2 players that can go get their shot...get us a bucket. Wagler and to a much lesser extent Stojakovic. I think we get a couple more 30 out bursts from Stojakovic.

4) Wagler is a lottery pick that seems to be getting better and better. I worry about the freshman wall, but he hasn't hit yet.

so we got a unique style, a 1.5 bucket getters, and a lottery pick. I think all requirements for a good run.

On the worry side is that teams that make good NCAA runs have senior guards. Our primary guard is a freshman. But his partner is a senior

but he’s just smaller which hurts on offense and defense. He can be a spark plug but Jake has been a spark plug too.

Hopefully he’s happy not being the star and if Wagler gets hurt he’ll be critical.

We get one bad call and X has a dozen videos. I can’t find one video of Sandfort being held

Just watched 5 minutes of the second half and didn’t see Sandfort held once. He’s not real strong so when Drej bodied him going over screens he wasn’t quick, but he also stood around half the possessions and let Jake Davis block his layup and out jump him for a rebound. Maybe Fred needs to develop his body.

I did see Mast undercut Keaton on a 3, most bullshit lack of officiating in that stretch.

Has anyone found a single video of Sandfort being held?

I think basketball is the ultimate team game and this team is definitely connected.

Every player is contributing when they are out there all the time. The effort has been outstanding and the defense has really improved, which is very surprising given Boswell's absence.

I don't think I've ever seen Illinois play as much zone as they did in the first half and it was very effective.

This sure has been an unexpectedly fun ride so far.

this isnt a situation where he put up gaudy numbers in non conference against nobodies and is riding that wave. he legitimately is stepping his game up in conference play on the road against elite competition. his emergence as a non-top 100 recruit true frosh is one of the most unique things we have seen at illinois.

supposedly he got on campus last summer at 160 lbs. He is now listed at 6'6" and 185. His body is still developing, allowing him strength to do what is brain is telling him to do. At 6'6" he could put on another 20 lbs. He doesn't look cut or thick.
Plus, his decisions and such are also improving every game. He had 28 points against Neb on just 15 shots

guys. UConn had athletes that shut him down.

I am impressed with his decision-making and shot range, but he has a way to go to answer the questions about his athleticism, although he did OK against a pretty athletic Washington team.
