Seattle is the only team that’s elite. But their offense is inconsistent.

The Patriots are solid but nothing special. The Texans D is incredible but Stroud is pretty bad. Denver was bad on offense before Nix got hurt.

The Rams and Bears are both solid but wouldn’t compete with a top tier team like we’ve seen in the past.

I’m just hoping for the Texans and Bears today. If Stroud doesn’t blow this game Texans should be the AFC favorite. As I’m typing this he just threw an inexcusable pick 6.

It could be like baseball, where a team has an abnormal success rate in one-run games, which may distort the assessment of the team's underlying ability. The next year the same team could go the other way on close games.

Last year's Washington team pulled out several close ones, including a complete freak win against the Bears. Made them look better than they were, which partly showed this year.

So, I don't know.... And the Bears will have a tough schedule next year in a very challenging division plus some other tough games due to finishing well this year. That was another thing that hurt Washington: they got a playoff team's schedule this year.

Last season they loaded up on the offensive line and our offense was great

This off-season they will load up on defense and we’re gonna go into the season as the betting favorite to win the NFC.

I like how Johnson said there’s no carryover. Next year is next year.

The thing that can offset the luck regression is Caleb’s continued development. Also we get draft picks and could even make a trade. We should probably try for Crosby. Poles drafted better last year with input from Johnson.

nfl is the best league for this very reason.

the margins are small and with the way the schedule penalizies success, you often have new blood emerging. i wouldnt necessarily expect the bears to be back in the divisional round. they will certainly enter the year with a reasonable chance of accomplishing that though.

NFL avoids them so it saves them from soul destroying contracts like the one Cleveland gave to Watson. That is one of baseballs biggest issues. The Angels ruined Trout’s prime with awful contracts. It seems teams are getting smarter.

People claim fewer guarantees is anti-player but with a salary cap it just means that deserving players get the money. These bad contracts suck money away from better players.

Baseball has a lot of issues but they really need a salary cap. Players will never agree to one.

indicated and this year's Bears team wasn't as good as its record indicated. If I was the front office I would be loading for a run in 2027 while Caleb is on the final year of his rookie deal (I think there is an option but a guy like him is going to insist on getting paid in that option year).

That's why I would almost be inclined to toss the coach at this point. I wasn't expecting a Super Bowl by the Bears, but the judgment exhibited in that loss was all I needed to see to know I wouldn't want that guy making judgments in a true pressure situation ever again. You go in, write off 2026, get some high picks and make a big run in 2027.

Points were going to be a premium. Your WR1 alligator armed a sure TD. Catching the ball in those conditions is not easy. Trust me, I was a WR in HS, and it is not easy to catch when the ball is hard as a rock.

where Ferentz gave an absolute masterclass on how you best position yourself to win when you play in conditions like that. Dissertation quality rant by the man who has coached more games in that muck than any active P4 or NFL coach.

He rambled on and on about why punter and kicker are positions where he is heavily involved in recruiting and said that in a game like that if you end every drive with a kick you are going to win more often than you lose because points and field position are always at a premium when conditions are that poor.

That game last night was, IMHO, a completely clueless Millennial chode who was entirely reliant on "analytics" because he has no ability to independently think critically, which is actually a big fucking problem for our society writ large. Some percentage of guys are going to "win" just by attrition but these guys aren't anything special, they just ran the playbook and survived the war of attrition.

Dude demonstrated that his ceiling should be OC, not HC, because he has piss poor judgment. That game should have been 16-10 or 13-10 at halftime and the Bears should have won it in regulation.

Here is what happens when it gets that crappy. Offensive efficiency goes way down. It becomes almost impossible to pop the top on any defense other than a Cover 0. You get an abridged playbook. Errant passes go way up, drops go way up, receivers get alligator arms on routes because they don't want to get hit in the ribs over the middle. The QB gets happy feet because it sucks so hard getting hit in those conditions. Everything favors the defense.

This is not a pissed off Bears fan, I don't even care for the Bears, but the 2 seed Chicago Bears should just never in a million years lose that particular game to that particular team at Soldiers Field. In the playoffs in a game like that you have to take advantage of the conditions and use your home field to win. Johnson was completely unprepared to do it.

I don't know how the Bears roster looks but the window is probably pretty narrow because Caleb is gonna get paid when his contract is up and it will erode the rest of the roster. Their window is probably down to 2026 and 2027 and I just ain't sure this guy is gonna get it done at HC. That loss was inexcusable.

We saw the end zone angle and it’s not like Moore was running hard and stopped he had slowed down before the ball was thrown. I thought he started taking it up field.
