A four-star recruit in the 2025 class, Wagler didn't enjoy the hype his peers did in high school but continues to prove he belongs in the conversation of most talented freshmen with elite efforts in Illinois' most challenging games. He finished with 19 points and 10 assists in a narrow loss to Nebraska last Saturday. He had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in a win over Tennessee. And he had 23 points in a win over Ohio State. The 6-foot-6 standout is trending toward a great freshman season, shooting 38.9% from 3 so far.

If we’re consistently making the tourney as a 6 seed or better and finishing top 4 in the Big Ten, he’s safe. I think we’d have to lose several years in a row in 1st round of tourney.

It appears we’re stuck with a Mike Brey/Rick Barnes type. Solid program builder but seems to lack the elite coaching gene that wins tournament games.

So we’ll settle for lots of round 32 losses and an occasional sweet 16 or elite 8.

This new defensive coordinator position seems to be Undy’s worst decision yet. We’re approaching the mid point of the season and even Boswell hasn’t figured it out.

2 guys scoring 24 and 26 on us in the 1st half in back to back games is a bit insane.

Overall I think he sucks. Love Bert but that was just a case of a perfect storm.

I also don’t count any other sport aside from men’s bb and football.

I think everyone of his previous hires were garbage. I have to think that most should support that since he’s hired and fired multiple bb and fb coaches that he hired.
