temporary measure as Amex has probably concluded that it is way cheaper to try to build their own payment system infrastructure internally and acquire users through their existing systems than to go out and try to buy something. I would suspect that if this gets popular the rewards will be slashed because Amex ain't about to collect no fee and pay 2% cash back in perpetuity.

is a $2k per month limit, likely installed so their system doesn't become an infinite money glitch. I commend them for this strategy, this will get people talking and be a marketing campaign that will take off with minimal spend on the marketing front because people like the points guy will promote it to millions of followers for free. Once they hit a critical mass and are bleeding money, they pull the rewards and hope the critical mass remains intact. It's pretty creative.
