Which is in some ways sad given that a total victory was entirely within the GOP's grasp here. No more $200 tax stamp for suppressors and short barreled rifles / shotguns although they will unfortunately likely remain restricted under the National Firearms Act. Meaning that you will still have to apply to the ATF for permission to own one. Which is bullshit. Suppressors are hearing protection devices and the short barrel restriction is an anachronism dating back to the original 1934 NFA which briefly contemplated the restriction of all handgus. Once that restriction was discarded, so to should have been the short barrel restriction.

Ultimately, there is no good reason to think that taking either suppressors or short barrels completely off of the NFA will have any appreciable affect on crime. This fight is not entirely over yet. If nothing else, the removal of the $200 tax may eventually lead to the withering of the remaining restrictions over time.

That's per a Chicago congressman/political yapper, Danny Davis.

FWIW, he's age 83, now uses a cane/walking-stick thing to gesture with as well as for its intended purpose. Been in the House for apx 28 years: from 1979 to 1990, Chicago alderman and then a Cook Co. commissioner from 1990 to 1996. IOW, hasn't done an honest day's work since maybe 1978. That's right around 47 years.

So is this the final result? No tax stamp but still application for approval? *

Fortunately, Kentucky has a state law which requires local enforcement to quickly approve NFA applications before they are sent to the ATF, so long as the applicant can satisfy the criteria of a standard Form 4473. I live in a free state.

But I shouldn't have to petition the ATF in order to exercise my 2nd Amendment rights. Or put up with bullshit regulations such as short barreled rifles cannot be taken outside the state of registration without prior written approval from the ATF. All of this should have been stripped completely from the NFA.

Now, there is a theory that with that the removal of the $200 tax, the remaining provisions in the NFA regarding these items will quickly face a legal challenge and should, per the black letter of the law, fail in the absence of the tax. But we all know how long it takes for these legal challenges to work their way through the courts.

I don’t think Single shot trusts require going through law enforcement in MO.

But I have an 11.5 braced AR pistol and I just cannot convince myself that I need a 9mm PCC. But I probably will eventually.
