i was a bit woke on the fact that an AL baseball fan would (1) know who ketel marte is; (2) know his mom died 8 years ago; (3) know the means by which said mom died; and (4) attend a game and use that knowledge to openly taunt him.

that is something that in theory could have happened, but it isn't the most likely scenario based on my lifetime of attending sporting events and never seeing anything close to that. it seemed more likely to me that something was misheard or misunderstood.
