Was that a dead wood situation that couldn't be removed / burned by property owners or state agencies?

If so, yeah, that's a big problem. Also, an expensive problem, but likely a fraction of the cost of the fires and rebuilding.

And for too long we have mis-managed our forests because of "the environment" and we have had horrible fires because of it.

A lot of what you saw happen in the Palisades out here was due to the fact that they weren't allowed to do clean ups and that made it all so much worse.

I'm not saying we should cut it all down.
