And it was important for you to have your gun on you at all times - how do you handle spending the night at family members? E.g. where would you store your gun and what would you say to the host about it?

At least in terms of a production rifle sold in the U.S. It is built off of a Russian data pack supplied to Azerbaijan, with the the requisite number of U.S. parts added to the build, as required by U.S. law. Which is really only applicable to the seller. A buyer could remove and replace some of the U.S. parts.
