There is no denying that the Indians were screwed over at virtually every step. And yet, how can anyone deny that it had to happen that way for the U.S. to become the country it is today?
If we had played fair with the Indians and never taken any of the land they claimed as their own, the U.S. would be miniscule in size. It would not possess but a fraction of the resources it currently does. It would not be a world superpower. And without a strong U.S., what do you the rest of the world would look like right now? Would the Nazis have won WWII? They almost certainly would have. Because without the U.S. first arming the Soviets and then joining the fight, who was going to stop the Germans? That being the case, who wants to make the argument that we should have left all of the Indians alone?
