Wish WGN would put up their video for internet users. He was bragging about how he did hunger strikes, etc when he was in the Chicago Teacher's Union. JMHO, but he's recovered since then.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson heads to Springfield to lobby for more funding

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is attempting to reestablish his relationship with state lawmakers in Springfield this week. He’ll be holding a Tuesday night dinner and Wednesday breakfast to call for more state funding for Chicago.
He’s joined by a collection of suburban mayors that form the “Metropolitan Mayors Caucus” to lobby the General Assembly and Gov. JB Pritzker to reverse a proposed cut in the portion of the state budget that gets distributed to cities like Chicago.
They say it will cost local governments $60 million, including a $12 million hit to Chicago for vital services like first responders, mental health services and small business funds.
Johnson and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus wrote an op ed letter in the Chicago Tribune Monday calling on lawmakers to reverse the proposed budget cut.
“The strength of our state’s economy is derived from the foundation that local government services provide. The responsibility of local governments to support first responders, workers and residents of all ages must remain at the forefront of critical revenue-sharing decisions,” the op ed said.
But Governor Pritzker says the mayors’ numbers are off, and that municipalities have actually fared better under his two terms in office.
“Since 2019, the Governor has increased revenue sharing with local governments by nearly $1 billion — a 71% increase — and enacted more than $2.5 billion annually in additional ongoing resources through transportation funding, cannabis legalization, video gaming, casino expansion, and other measures. He has also given local municipalities greater authority to adopt local sales taxes without requiring voter referendums and eliminating certain state administrative fees on collections — giving communities greater flexibility and control over their fiscal future,” a governor’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Johnson is trying to reverse his record in Springfield – where he has failed to gain traction on his priorities for Chicago – most notably, $2 billion more for CPS and a millionaires tax amendment.
