I think there are 2 movements happening
Lots of people leaving IL but also a lot of people leaving Crook county and heading for the suburbs because they think it will be better. The Teekis of the world like to recall when it was poor people they didn’t want anymore leaving. But now the IRS is releasing income data and it’s largely people making 200k+. I am in the area this weekend for a wedding. Even in the two years since I was here for another wedding, I see new housing and retail sprawl. You might think the state was booming.
I have to say that when I drive around, things are pretty generic and uninteresting. That field that used to be farmland is now a retail complex like you see everywhere. At least it sure beats the look and feel of decline.
