So while most runners will be affiliated with a college, some runners may be post graduation and are running unattached. "Open Athletes" in Track and Field is pretty common for independent meets and means no age limit or attachment to a school is necessary to compete. Just pay your $20 per event and you are in. Lots of professional runners will compete in these types of meets.
