As for them joining the US?....that is another question and not quit as much of a done deal, but there is a large movement there for it and Alberta's "governor" has met with White House delegates multiple times over the last few months. The amount of natural resources they bring to the table would be staggering.
We could offer them a 1 to 1 trade on their currency which would make them all instantly 50% more wealthy and we'd still come out so far ahead in oil, potash, timber, and water it would be beyond a no brainer.
Add in the national parks and the fact that Alberta would be a red state it is an easy yes.
Mexico should never have any sort of statehood unless you want to add baja california....but even then you'd need to relocate TJ to "mainland" mexico.
