A man pulled out his cell phone and then stabbed a sleeping man to death on a CTA Blue Line train early Saturday morning while recording, prosecutors allege.
Demetrius Thurman, 40, was ordered detained by a judge Tuesday during a hearing on a first-degree murder charge.
Police responded to the Clark and Lake station, located in the 100 block of West Lake, just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the report of a stabbing.
The victim, Dominique Pollion, was sleeping on the train for about an hour and had no interactions with Thurman prior to the incident, court documents state.
At around 2:17 a.m., Thurman entered the train and walked up behind Pollion holding his phone in the right hand and a knife in his left hand, prosecutors allege.
He began recording and allegedly stabbed Pollion once in the chest and once in the abdomen.
Detectives recovered the video and surveillance footage of the incident.
Pollion screamed, backed away down the aisle and then collapsed. Thurman was accused of fleeing between train cars and then recording the scene through the window once the train stopped at Clark and Lake.
He allegedly told security officers “somebody got his ass” before leaving the CTA station.
Security officers initially did not know Pollion was stabbed due to multiple layers of clothing. Paramedics located the stab wounds and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
