the Decatur Herald & Review.
He covered Illini Sports for decades and he did so very well. He retired from the newspaper a few years ago, but he still hosts a weekly Sports talk Show on the radio station WSOY along with fellow retired newspaperman, Tim Cain.
They are a great pair and I love listening to the show to get their take on things. It helps a lot that they are fellow geezers too. :-)
One of the things Mark and Tim started back in the Lou Henson days was an annual visit by the Illini Basketball Head Coach to Decatur. I can't remember how many consecutive years it has been, but the only year that has been missed was 2020.
Mrs. GA and I attended every one in the 14 years we lived in Decatur. We missed the Bill Self era. Coach Markerface was our first experience.
They posted the podcast of this year's visit this week and I listened to it and thought it was great. You hear a lot of things you don't hear from the usual sources and you get some interesting info on the players. Brad is there a long with Orlando Antigua, Geoff Alexander and Tyler Underwood.
This basketball team has some really good chemistry, but the remarks Brad made about coaching changes and the roles makes me think the coaching chemistry is very good too.
I really enjoyed hearing Orlando because you can tell he is genuine in his relationships. It just comes through. I think Tyler represented himself well and did a good job of describing the role he is playing and his development.
If you made it this far, congratulations! Here's a link to the podcast:
