If there is a senior league around, go observe and see what it’s like. In the weakest league I play in, some people are absolutely horrible. Not much more range than a lamppost, for example.
Some guys can run really well for their age, as I do, and others cannot. Some guys hit with power and have strong throws; I don’t. Maybe I need a shoulder plan to help throws.
When I started 5-6 years ago after not playing for decades, running was a bit painful and my body had to get used to sprinting. I run better now than I did the first year.
Softball might be less stressful for some oldsters than pickleball, with all those stops and starts.

I have been working on gaining better mobility in this 71 year old body.
When you don't use it in your 60's it rusts very quickly. A good 40 years of sitting behind a desk all day didn't provide a good foundation for getting here either.
I started using a Muscle Booster app that takes into consideration starting at zero and it also considers age. I tried it because it described what it can do for mobility rather than muscle because that ship sailed long ago.
The benefits in mobility have been amazing. I couldn't play softball like Potomac. The lateral movement in my hips started out very limited and slow movement when there was any. That's where I seen the biggest improvement and flexibility, but I have tremendous gains everywhere in 9 weeks and the benefits were noticeable the first week.
