LOL, in my younger days I was at more than one wedding where the couple was opening envelopes (back in the office) during the reception to pay off the hall.
Holy gawd almighty, if someone knew what the reception cost, but didn't cover their meals... they'd never get another invite. The entire family with marriage-age kids would find out. LOLOL
