My money was instead expected to be devoted to my college education costs. Purchased my first vehicle in early 1991 while I was working for a year between college and law school. A 1979 Celica GT, five speed. Looked like crap but it ran pretty well because the co-worker who sold it to me for $500 was a car guy / mechanic
