2. In the near future it's going to eliminate so, so many jobs. High paying jobs. I know the argument is we are all going to have UBI and not have to work and we'll just all live in harmony in some pleasure utopia, but everyone knows that's bullshit. Where is the incentive to push to that vs. just making a top 0.1% overclass and the rest of the world poor, food controlled slaves? Even if you could convince me that we'll have this no work utopian future, the interim is going to likely be one of the worst stretches in human history. Well accomplished hard working people are going to have their livelihoods, dignity, and prospects for a stable future ripped away from them. There is a coming flood of despair and desperation that is going to motive people to do bad things. I truly don't see how society doesn't start to unwind over the next few years as AI starts to really take hold and jobs are eliminated en mass.
Just this weekend I was talking w a friend who works at Microsoft and he said another massive layoff is happening there this week....and whatever Microsoft does is going to be followed by most other tech companies. He said that some of this is just correcting the overhiring they did during covid, but most of it is elimination of roles that are now done by AI or a restructuring so that more work can be handled by AI in the near future.
I wouldn't care about this at all if not for having a 9 and 11 year old. I truly fear the coming 2 decades.
probably just another real jerk in life36
