Today in the car I heard Bobby Darin on SiriusXM doing a song that's also in my Spotify list. It may be the oldest song (1959 / 60) that's not classical or a show tune or jazz ("Take 5" by Dave Brubeck from 1959 and some by Duke Ellington). That is, the oldest from the pop / rock era.
I have no Elvis in my list, but do have Elvis Costello, FWIW.
I think "Beyond the Sea" is constructed nicely, with a smooth vocal by Darin and suitable crisp orchestration. Am I hopelessly old-fashioned for thinking that?
