can ball, he's good, he's been on good teams, etc. That is the outlier experience and survivor bias you bring. Most kids aren't that good, most parents don't want that level of commitment or have multiple kids and can't juggle that sort of scheduling and they want their kid to get reps, but not when you have some roided out guy who played backup catcher at Cal State Fullerton yelling at them when they get caught looking and register the second out in a critical late inning.

The market failure Villain is complaining about is the bimodal distribution of the leagues. It's either a grabass league for an hour a week or three weeknights of practice and 9 hours at the field on Saturday or something equally absurd. People want more than the grabass league, but less than the money making grift of the "elite" crap and that option simply does not exist for most of the country (SoCal certainly has the population to support it). I don't know the story, but I would guess that Villain was trying to make that middle ground league but it probably quickly got hijacked by a bunch of douchebags who think their daughters are going to play soccer at UCLA or some similar nonsense.
