There is certainly vanity value in owning a fraction of a percent of a team, but I can't envision a scenario absent a major reworking of media rights where the league can support anywhere near those valuations in connection with an actual full sale transaction, which is really what captures what these things are worth. That's a lot of money for a league that isn't making money. Perhaps that team is. I suppose it all hinges on media rights.
The owners who cashed in some shares to make room for some new investors were probably smart. They made a very nice gain and reduced their risk.
