Is everyone taking the manager’s word for it that he’s satisfied with the squad as it stands? Anyone who believed that we were ever seriously in for Mellon jnr surely can’t simultaneously believe that the playing budget is fully spent up.

If Woods is (unexpectedly) staying - and Payne is behind both him and Pett in the pecking order, to the extent that he doesn’t even merit a place in the match day 18 - I don’t see the point of having him on loan again for the season. Can’t see Wigan being impressed either. Would expect a mutual agreement to cancel the loan agreement so that they can send him somewhere else, where he would stand a better chance of getting some game time. Like Rochdale / Tranmere / Accrington etc.

I would prefer us to use his loan place in the squad more constructively - like for a left winger? Perhaps Castell from Burnley - 90th minute sub in their first round league cup tie and hasn’t featured in their match day squad at all since.
