Cass as the resident English language specialist. I have a question.

Why do people refer to Carnival as, Carnival? They never say. "We will be at carnival". "Or. We are going to carnival". "Carnival takes place on...." Not 'at the carnival'. They say, if you get me it's never the carnival, or a carnival, it's always, carnival.

It's driving me as mad as when the say. Works will be completed by Friday. It's. They work will be completed by Friday."

Or "I'm going to site" Not 'the site'. Drives me quite mad! It shouldn't but it does. Can you help?
