George Kinnell was a good deal for Latics as we paid £20,000 for him and Keith Bebbington and it was rumoured that Kinnell was valued at £8,000 of that.Just 2 months later he was sold to Sunderland for £25,000. Thats the equivalant of £1.5 million at todays rate. The sad part was that after that game at Mansfield, which I went too and we won 4-2 (Kinnell 2 goals) I felt Latics had a team capable of promotion but within a few weeks we had sold Kinnell and Frank Large. We also beat QPR away 1-0(Their only home defeat that season) but after the 2 departures it was down hill and we only finished just in the top half.
Winston Dubose (GK)only played 1 game in the league cup v Darlington and was gone after a few weeks.Also lets not forget the return of Andy Goram was just 1 game (1-7 v Cardiff).
