I wasn’t impressed with today’s performance. Far from it.
But I think Mellon frequently gets a raw deal on here, for the players’ deficiencies and inconsistency, that he can do little about.

Curious starting 11 this week. But he ended up giving all his fit forwards a fair run. As well as all his fit midfielders. Subs, when they came on, made negligible difference.

Look at the stats and you will see that we had almost as many shots and nearly as many on target as last week. But apart from a couple of early near misses from Hawkes they were mostly rather feeble attempts. We ought to have won as easily as last week on balance of chances. Most disappointing stat was passing accuracy - 75% last week. Barely 60% today. Result is barely watchable attritional football, sometimes verging on pinball in midfield - where, as others have already observed, we were frequently outmuscled. The Accy player could have been called out and booked 3 times in the 3 seconds before Drummond’s yellow card. But he was very physical and robust and got away with it. So it goes.

Our players are barely average league 2 standard. And they are inconsistent. I don’t understand why everyone immediately blames Mellon for that, when they collectively have a bad day.
