Here is an idea I would like Oldham Athletic fans to give me feedback on.
I do not want the Scottish, Welsh, and English leagues to merge. And I do not want the big Scottish clubs to join the English leagues. As people would think Scotland was part of England, and all the Scottish top tier trophies would be relegated to the status of lower tier trophies.
So for instance Celtic, and Rangers would go from over 100 top tier domestic trophies to ZERO.
A better idea is the best of both worlds where we keep our own Scottish, English, and Welsh leagues but have Pan-Great Britain Cups on top of domestic football.
What about 3 strong leagues in Great Britain, not just one.
I would love my teams of Aberdeen and ICTFC to play competitive games against teams like Oldham Athletic.
Cross-border cups would be transformational for Welsh footy. The Welsh love English footy.
Cross Border cups for Welsh sides would boost attendances, finances, and match quality.
The Scottish allowed Welsh, Irish, and English sides in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
And simple trophy reorganisations could add teams to the trophies without increasing the number of games for English sides.
My ideas are;
1. Invite all Scottish Premiership sides not in Europe and the top 3 Welsh-Cymru Premier sides as guest sides in the EFL Trophy.
Imagine Oldham v Hearts, or Livingston v Oldham. Or Kilmarnock v Tranmere Rovers, Newport County v Bala Town, Shrewsbury Town v Dundee, and Harrogate Town v TNS. It would be like European footy.
2. Invite all Welsh Cymru Premier sides, and some lower tier Southern Scottish sides as guest sides in the English non-league cups called the FA Trophy, National League Cup, and FA Vase.
3. Invite the top 3 or 4 Scottish Premier sides and top 2 Welsh league sides as guests in the English FA Cup, and English League Cup.
So.what does everyone think of keeping the Scottish, English, and Welsh leagues but having cross-border cups on top of that and on top of football in UEFA trophies?
Travel into Scotland for 4 or 5 games a season for clubs in England would not be too difficult travelwise.
Considering League of Ireland clubs have gone to Eastern Europe in UEFA matches.
I am open to feedback on these ideas.
Go on.
It would really help Welsh football develop, and would be fun for Scottish sides.
I am serious.
What does everyone think?
I will be polite.
Be honest.
