One of the things I remember clearly from that day occurred as my parents and I walked towards the ground. A Liverpool supporter was asking if anyone had a spare ticket and we had one. He asked my Dad how much he wanted for the ticket. When Dad told him, his initial reaction was a mixture of thinking the ticket must have been a forgery and one of disbelief. Dad had to persuade him that he really did want just the face value back whereas the fan was expecting to pay though the nose.
The point of my story is that he needed a ticket. He could not just pay at the gate.
