Sen canine’s comments are interesting. I guess he disagrees with the founders who said human rights derive from the creator.
Jefferson was influenced by John Locke ( an NP so no slouch ) and Locke was influenced by Descartes. Descartes was a scientist who developed a calculus so if he says I think therefore I am and that furthermore a creator is self evident we can’t call Descartes or Locke a religious zealot.
Locke started with man in the state of nature such as can be seen in nonhuman primates today. Man came first and later governments. Although man in the state of nature lived a life that was short and brutal, he was free to pursue life liberty and property. This state existed before governments were instituted piggybacked on man’s rituals about his creator.
So that is the context of Rubeo’s correct remarks and Caines correction.
placing government as the granter of human rights does not avoid the perils of theocracy but only leads to authoritarianism and loss of individual rights. Placing the origin of human rights in the creator ( Einstein admitted that though he had no specific religious creed he had no other options for origins of the universe to offer) ultimately puts power in the individual to join with other individuals to secure these god given rights .
So NP Locke would side with Rubeo NPA+ instead of Caine N. But Locke living as he did through the turbulent 17th century was a peacemaker and always opted for compromise and peace.
