Heres an example of an A- candidate gene (DBH) could allow the proliferation of A- trait despite what we could consider a disadvantageous aspect to the bearers of the trait. Here the gene "repairs" a break (in this case in patients with phenylketonuria) in the chain that produces neurotransmitters. Those with A- trait seem to have a natural tendancy to high dopamine levels so that comes in handy in patients who have an upstream break in the production of neurotransmitters like dopamine.
