What with the "book burning" etc. of Nazi Germany, one wonders if there was a general distrust of knowledge, science, intellectuals, etc. as a core value for the Nazi regime? If so, that's a lot to think about. Maybe the fascist society can never win when there is a more open society around since the open society with plenty of scientists around can figure out a better way to beat the fascists? But D day happened long before the bomb was dropped on Japan so would the US have dropped bombs on Germany and Russia in 1945 if they had teamed up and thus no D Day had happened? If Russia had teamed up with Hitler, a very different world would be ours today.
