Here in a Spanish study, DRD3 receptor is found related to autophagy, deficit of which is an endophenotype of neuropsychiatric disease.
So one of 2 possibilities:
1. effect on autophagy may explain why lack of A trait is associated with neuropsychiatric disease (the most common of which is schizophrenia).
2. this study may be an example of entanglement since autophagy is more common in those with neuropsychiatric disease, and this habitancy has very high frequency lack of A trait and thus a high frequency of neuropsychiatric disease. Thus the association of DRD3 with autophagy may be because of their common linkage with nsuropsychiatric illness and not with each other.
