Sometimes it seems that personality and the brain could never be truly understood, but sometimes it seems that we can't see the forest for the trees.
There is a definitely understood connection between prolactin and dopamine for example where increases in prolactin cause decreases in dopamine. One clinical example of that is that pregnant women with severe nausea can often we found to have high dopamine as a result of the decrease in prolactin from the high estrogen levels of the placenta. And if the fetus has high dopamine levels, the mother's nausea with be especially severe.
Low estrogen levels of the menopause appear to cause a higher sympathetic nervous system tone thus we see more anxiety and nervousness in menopause at least at the beginning. There is some concern that cognition is affected also when hormone levels decrease in the menopause. One take home is that removing ovaries is not a good thing.
I know the body is extremely complicated but some things can be understood someday (I hope). We just need to look at the forest instead of at every tree at times. This is what NPA theory does.
