Many years ago I was given a used Sheaffer Nononsense Calligrapher set that was pretty much useless to me for it only contained the pen and an empty Sheaffer cartridge that was cracked and could not be refilled. I had this pen buried in a drawer for over a decade and found it last week while decluttering my desk.I wanted to try it out because I had heard good things about these old Sheaffers, but what to do when there`s no fitting cartridge around? I looked at my international cartridges and at the little metal tube of the pen that is inserted into the cartridge and decided to give this a try:

The connection isn`t tight enough to carry this pen in your pocket or toss it around but it doesn`t leak and works if you are a bit careful with handling the pen.
I have found out this way that my Nononsense is a wonderful writer, very smooth and medium wet.I`m going to load the barrel with springs from cheap disposable ballpoint pens so that these press a little against the cartridge and hold it in place. Then I can use the Sheaffer as my EDC fountain pen and don`t have to worry about the cartridge loosening inside the pen.
