First pen"
My first pen was an Esterbrook J - actually a J and an LJ. Both pens were schoolyard finds - some other unfortunate student must have lost them, but I found them in time to use them when learning Palmer Penmanship in second grade, around 1954 or so. I still have both pens, re-sacked (that's another Chicago pen history story) and ready to go, along with another 100-odd pens now in my "accumulation." I remember going to the local Hallmark card shop when one of the Esties needed a new nib. I think they were up to a whole dollar by that time.
