Eight films remained in play from the original series in Oakland, in four varyingly incongruous double features (something that Eddie is now almost as synonymous for as his sartorial splendor). Here they are as they spooled out...
Friday 9/18:
King Creole (1957), The Crimson Canary (1945)
Saturday 9/19:
matinee--Gilda (1946), Black Angel (1946)
evening--A Man Called Adam (1966), Sweet Smell of Success (1957)
Sunday 9/20:
Blues in the Night (1941), The Man I Love (1947)
So another mash-up defined by the need for a strong hook for the two evening shows (it appears that Eddie wanted to get back to the Bay Area by Sunday night--there used to be ten films in this festival). Odd to play the queasy Adam ahead of Sweet Smell, though...perhaps the media got that wrong.
Lots of 40s here, with Elvis again providing the stunt programming. Again we see Eddie backing away from that Yellow Canary, which would at least have had the ironic touch of colliding Elvis with one of his watered-down imitators (Pat Boone) had he only shown some bravado on Friday night...ah, well.
