The self-limiting nature of Eddie's theme--and the need to hype what is (at the present time, at least) a drifting restoration agenda at FNF--leads us to a rather leaden weekend schedule at NC Boston that peters out precipitously on Sunday. (Note that SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is a bonus screening, and as such will not provide the audience with an intro from Foster Hirsch, whose considerable skills will be mostly wasted otherwise.)

Seems that Bogie and Bacall are needed to help sell tickets for this series, but...TO HAVE is NOT a noir. Better to go with NORA PRENTISS as the follow-up to GILDA, but whatcha gonna do...and as noted before, HANGOVER SQUARE and THE WRONG MAN has a sneaky theme lurking underneath its initial improbability and would make for an infinitely more interesting Sunday matinee than the bird-brained double feature being served up on an already calamitous "80th anniversary."(We leave it to you, the reader, to figure out this reference...)
