And this article is, sadly, quite superficial, poorly focused and filled with strange digressions wandering indiscriminately between pulp fiction and post-neo-noir TV.

But it's true that we continue to have a dark efflorescence going on regardless of how central or peripheral we deem the private investigator to be. Some of these new incarnations are on the money and some are, as Sam Spade noted, crummy...but noir aficionados can (in the main) be glad that the times seem to be bringing out an accelerated level of disillusion that delivers to us via film, TV and fiction more of that dark world we find so strangely comforting...
