Great to have the one-and-only back in his old stomping grounds again, following up last year's Resistance Film Festival with a tribute to noir's most iconic cinematographer.

Note, though, that in keeping with the trends in the economy generally and in repertory houses in particular, it's not a cheap show--$11 separate admissions for each film (though Roxie members will receive substantial discounts).

The focus here is on Alton's bumper crop of noirs from 1948, with the added bonus of THE BIG COMBO, which might be appearing in its restored 4K incarnation. Visually, the double feature on Tuesday the 2nd is about as sublime as it gets for noir, even if the stories accompanying the images are more far-fetched.

It's but a drop in the bucket from the days when Elliot would screen 20-24 films in a series filled with ultra-rarities, but it's well worth the time & effort to attend...
