I'd explain it to you, Bitter One, but you'd just disagree with me! :-)

The schedule for PS has always begun with 10am screenings--save, of course, for the Opening Night festivities. It has always seemed early to me as well, but they seem to want a bit more time between screenings for lunch and dinner-- starting at 10am accomplishes the former, and the 4:00 to 7:30 timing does the same for the latter...
