ChiBob will avoid this one--too much Liz Scott--but it's an old fave of mine and definitely should be part of TCM's "Flashback Friday" series for the seamless way Bogie's voiceover shifts into present tense.

Rita Hayworth was supposed to be Coral Chandler, but she was shanghaied into making a film with her soon-to-be ex-husband (some guy named Orson Welles)...might have worked, too, especially if it turned out she was Gilda and was on the rebound from Glenn Ford. Some of Elsa Bannister's backstory could have dovetailed into such a connection...
