Director William Berke generally handled "B" movie assignments, but he demonstrated that he could deliver the goods despite being tasked with programmers such "Dark Mountain," "Dick Tracy," and "Shoot to Kill." A failed television pilot with Hugh Beaumont wound up being released as two short films by Robert L. Lippert, "Pier 23" and "The Roaring City."

Another "Screen Guild" production (Lippert), "Shoot to Kill," furnished many photos and stills used to accompany the text in Eddie Muller's "Dark City."
