This is Martin Lewis, not Martin & Lewis (not known for their "noir elements"!). The Ephemeral New York blog, which over the years has featured many menacing images from various locations in the five boroughs, continues to showcase the etchings of Lewis, a native Australian who came to New York in the 1910s and (as can be seem) was clearly taken with the area's teeming nightlife.
Several of Lewis' etchings of nocturnal life (and its perhaps not-so-latent dangers) have been featured: in an earlier stage of the NC e-zine these works might have found a slot in the magazine, but that content category seems to have gone by the wayside. (Which is both a pity and a bit of a head-scratcher, given that current editor Imogen Smith has shown interest in such work over the years, including a memorable-but-currently-unavailable essay on portraits in film noir that ran in a 2012 edition of the e-zine.)
There are links in the essay accompanying the image shown here that will take you to other Lewis etchings--apparently there are enough of these to warrant a possible pictorial showcase in the NC e-zine...
