When one contemplates the beyond-overwrought arc of horror films in recent years, we might have more appreciation for how noir and horror tropes were able to blend in vivid, disturbing but still nuanced ways in the 1940s--and THE RED HOUSE is an excellent example of that. Edgar Chaput does a fine job of examining the film from that aspect.
It really should have been incorporated into Imogen Smith's "In Lonely Places" series, but--as noted--it's not in her book, either.
