I think many of us are attracted to the multiple-hybrid "thrillers" of the early-mid 1960s that flit in and out of the "noir sense"--particularly those that collide the last vestiges of black & white filmmaking with the use of widescreen. All of that is on display here, as fashioned by the capable hands of J. Lee Thompson. This twisted tale of deceit set in WWII Paris is boosted by excellent work from its key cast--Maximilian Schell, Ingrid Thulin, Samantha Eggar and the indombitable Herbert Lom.
