I really like the films of Joseph H. Lewis. What a shame the Columbia would not grant him a budget to film "The Undercover Man" as a period film with some location shots!

Like the R-K-O remake of "The Racket" and Monogram's "Dillinger," "The Undercover Man" suffers a little bit for being made as a contemporary movie while the actions taking place in this "Chicago" story really should be set in the early 1930s.
