Indeed, the times we now live in seem to have flipped just about every certainty we thought we had.
I do agree the movie is very inconsistent as far as tone is concerned and it does try a bit too hard for social relevance.
I haven't seen it for a number of years now, but I know I enjoyed it despite its flaws. I find I can watch Quinn in almost anything, regardless of the material he was given he was never a lazy performer. And Anne Bancroft was such a canny actress.
