It is interesting how the Oscar triumphs of The Artist, listed at #1 here, have been pretty much completely forgotten / papered over, and it was only 13 years ago! When Parasite won five years ago, much was made of its being the first international / non-English-language film to win Best Picture, and The Artist, which is a very French film in every respect, albeit silent, was never referred to because that would have made Parasite’s win less “sexy”. Jeepers, it was only eight years earlier that The Artist won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, so this was almost a form of gaslighting, as if none of that had ever happened.
