From three years ago...are we still waiting for this one to appear on DVD? It seems that a lot of the late 50s Universal product is still MIA.

I think Jack Carson and Gail Russell save this one from succumbing to bathos in the hands of Jeff Chandler and Jeanne Crain.

But I'd still consider doing the nine-film series showcasing novelist/screenwriter George Zuckerman. There are actually 11 films that could be screened (add SPY HUNT and UNDER THE GUN), which would make this into a perfect fit for the format at Palm Springs. Don't hold your breath for that, however...

A film that absolutely deserves a full-on release and in its Cinemascope aspect ratio.

Interestingly, we came THIS CLOSE to doing a George Zuckerman retrospective in 2016 which would have made for a superb combination of 40s and 50s noir/melodrama. Consider:

99 RIVER STREET (1953)
THE SQUARE JUNGLE (1955)
WRITTEN ON THE WIND (1956)

It would have been on the occasion of the novelist/screenwriter's 100th birthday, but it didn't prove to be feasible for several reasons.

It would still make for a great weekend mini-festival, however.

And, BTW, two of Zuckerman's novels, THE LAST FLAPPER (about Zelda Fitzgerald, whom Zuckerman knew personally) and FAREWELL, FRANK MERRIWELL, are both worth the effort to track down.
